AMO Taskforce: intensive training programme well received!
In May 2024 a team of eight trainers formed a Taskforce aiming to deliver a 3 weeks intensive training programme at different schools in Ghana. In summary, it was a very fruitful time giving a push forward, a real boost, to the Trainings AMO Programme. Testament to this is that within a 3,5-week time frame 616 Teachers for Basic Education were trained. Please read on for more details!
- Schools in Ho, Nkawkaw, Abepotia, Asiakwa, Toamfom, Kumasi, Koforidua, Akropong and Takoradi were visited.
- The Taskforce had the following members:
NAME | BACKGROUND | PARTICIPATION |
Kwaku Kwakye | Production Manager | no Takoradi |
Daniel Delali | Marketing Officer | throughout |
Dwamena Akoto Ayim | Training Development Officer | at Abepotia, Nkawkaw, Asiakwa, Kumasi |
Evelien van Beek | retired Teacher and Trainer | no Toamfom, Kumasi, Takoradi |

Joke Nieuwland | retired KG Teacher | no Takoradi |
Henk Bosch | former Coordinator of AMO Programme, Trainer | throughout |
Joa Bosch-Mulder | retired PE Teacher, volunteer Trainer | throughout |
The Taskforce has made the following observations:
- Teachers know that there is a new Curriculum (from 2019 onward)
- Teachers are not really equipped to apply Active Learning Methods (ALM) in their lessons
- Teachers have not had any Training on Active Learning
- Generally speaking, teachers are eager to learn about ALM
In addition, the Taskforce spotted the following opportunities:
- AMO Programme has Unique Selling Points: besides ALMs, also Training Potentials
- AMO Programme Foundation should now give a lot of priority to the Training Unit, as interests are high
- Spotted potential trainers must be treasured as out of them could come good Training Development Officers and Regional Trainers for AMO Programme.
